adidas Re-Ups with UEFA for Six More Years

UEFA has extended its long-term partnership with adidas for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League competitions together with an agreement for the UEFA Super Cup. The new agreement will make adidas the official supplier partner for the next six years through the end of the 2017/2018 season.

Soccer fan runs on field, punches player, then gets beatdown

The Galaxy vs. Red Bulls fight that happened last weekend was cool to talk about for a bit, but nothing really happened. All of the punches missed, and to be honest, it has nothing on what goes down in Europe.

It appears that European security guards have given up trying to protect the players on the field. The fan who runs onto the pitch and knocks #22 out, wasn’t restrained a bit from getting onto the field. Then when he was out there, #22′s teammates had to come to his aide well before a security guard was even visible.

I do have to give #18 some respect though, he had some serious moves, including a few scissor kicks that would have impressed Mortal Kombat’s Liu Kang.

Messi, Xavi, Ronaldo up for Best in Europe

The first shortlist for the new UEFA Best Player in Europe Award has been announced, with Xavi Hernandez, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the running to land the title.

The award, which brings back the format of the old Ballon D’Or and sees 53 sports journalists from each of the continent’s football associations select the top player in Europe, will be presented during the UEFA Champions League group stage draw on August 25.

Unsurprisingly, World Player of the Year Messi is favourite, although Ronaldo’s 40 goals for Real Madrid could also see him pick up the prize. Each journalist picks their three best-ranked players, with the first player receiving five points, the second three, and the third one point, to reveal a list of the top ten players in Europe.

Evra: Buys can clinch Champions League

Patrice Evra believes Manchester United’s latest signings can help the club to win the Champions League. It may still be relatively early in the summer, but Sir Alex Ferguson has been extremely active in recruiting Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David de Gea for a combined fee of over £50 million, while further additions could be on their way. And though Evra is keen to retain the Premier League, he’s also determined to win another Champions League and feels that the squad’s new signings could be key to any such plans.

“I think they are great signings,” he said. “We will give them a nice welcome. I think they’ll be important and I’m very confident about the future. After we lost the Champions League final, I said we had lost just a game. But I’m confident about the future, especially with our great new signings, and I think we are going to win it next year. We hope to retain the title, but also to win the Champions League.”

FC Barcelona Team Dubai, I just threw up a little.

According to ESPN, the Royal Emirates Group (aka the Dubai Royal Family) has decided to buy an undisclosed La Liga team and change the name to ‘_______ Team Dubai’.

In case you live under a rock, the Dubai Royal Family has a lot of money.  How much you ask?  Well, make up a ridiculous number >> multiply it by 1000 >> then take it to the 1,000th power and it all comes from oil.  Good for them.  I would buy a franchise too (maybe a league), but the thought that next year we could be watching ‘FC Barcelona Team Dubai’ competing in Champions League disgusts me.  Good luck selling kits with a name like that.   I won’t be buying one because I already give you $5.00/gallon for gas.  Maybe I should get a free jersey with each tank?
