Argentina took down Paraguay 6-1 in a Copa America semifinal on Tuesday, but the real story had less to do with the scoreline than Lionel Messi’s decision to embarrass people in front of a global audience.

Already up 3-1, Messi sliced through Paraguay’s back line, cutting through multiple players before causing two Paraguayans to crash into one another and tumble to the floor as Messi ran past.

Argentina went on to the score on the play, with Angel di Maria finishing off the move, but more importantly, photographers managed to catch the moment of Messi’s brillance perfectly.

Just look at the collateral damage. So dirty, Lionel:

VerratiIt’s not too often that a player locks down one of their sport’s most dynamic offensive forces, but that’s exactly what Marco Verrati did during PSG’s recent Champions League match with Barcelona.

For the 62 minutes that Verrati was on the pitch, he looked a composed pendulum in the midfield, offering support to a team that struggled to repel Barcelona’s flowing attack, repeatedly stepping in at crucial moments to cut down opportunities for Barcelona.

Check out the clips after the jump that show Verrati’s work on Lionel Messi. These aren’t desperation tackles, though they may look it. These are perfectly timed, perfectly measured tackles that prevented clear opportunities on goal.

Breaking records is nothing new for Messi. This past weekend Leo ousted Paulino Alcantara and took over as the highest goalscorer in Barca history. Messi now has 371 goals in all competitions as a member of Barcelona and you can watch every single one of them in the video above.

This is embarrassing and awesome all at the same time. Real Sociedad player Jon Arrospide Gaztanaga decided to do his best Richard Sherman impression. We all know it’s really hard to stop the little maestro, but wrapping him up and trying cuddle with him is borderline pathetic. Poor Leo…

Messi is back from his injury and the little magician picked up exactly where he left off. 2 months w/o Messi is as long as I am willing to tolerate. He came into the game in the 60th minute and managed to score twice in 4 minutes. Highlights are right above and GIFS of the goals can be found after the jump.

This is Leo Messi and Javier Mascherano heading their way downfield until Messi banked in a header for 6.4 points, because Argentinians are weird and play basketball wrong. I’m looking at you, Ginobili. You’re awful.

My favorite is the dumb amusement Tata Martino gets out of the whole spectacle. Like he’s a child who just watched a rubber duckie emerge from underneath the bathwater COMPLETELY UNSCATHED. WHAT SCIENCE IS THIS.

Anyway, it’s Messi, so we’re obligated to bring you this breaking news. Coming up on News at Six: Messi drinks chocolate milk, is adorable. You don’t want to miss it.

In lieu of saying one has integrity and the other doesn’t, I’ll simply point knowingly to these two exhibits and allow you to draw whatever conclusions come to mind.
