Javier Pastore looks headed for Spain or England after Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini revealed a bid of €50 million has been made for the player. Pastore, who turned 22 last week, has become one of the hottest properties in European football with his performances for Palermo since moving to the club from Huracan two years ago.

Zamparini refused to be drawn on which club had made the offer, but Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea appear to be his most likely suitors. He netted 11 Serie A goals from midfield last season, and provided five assists, as Palermo finished eighth in the table.

“There is only a 10% chance that he will stay with us,” Zamparini said. “At the moment he is in Argentina preparing for the Copa America and his agent is evaluating three or four offers – but none from Italian sides. It’s exactly what is occurring at Udinese with Alexis Sanchez. I can also confirm that a foreign club made me a €50m offer yesterday [Tuesday]. What nationality were they? Icelandic. There were Italian sides who wanted him, but you’ll have to ask them if they are still interested. The player himself has no preference over his next destination. At the moment he is calmly just waiting for us to give him news. Pastore is worth more than €50m and in two or three years’ time his price will double. Is he better than Ganso of Santos? I don’t know him very well, but Pastore is worth three or four times more than him.”

Palermo have confirmed Chelsea are still pursuing Javier Pastore but the managerless Blues are facing competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid for the midfielder.

Chelsea are eager to add a creative force to their engine room, with Tottenham’s Luka Modric another target, and Argentina star Pastore has been catching the eye. At 22, he is deemed to be the right profile for Chelsea, and Palermo are aware of the interest.

“Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona want Pastore,” Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini told Radio Radio TV. “I told his agent to see what market there is for the player and he has probably spoken to some clubs. At the end of the week we will meet to shed a bit of light on the future of the player.”

Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti admits he’s a big fan of Palermo star Javier Pastore. Pastore has been linked with Inter ahead of the Coppa Italia final.

“He’s a talent, is doing very well in Palermo, is one of those players who can come up with something at any time to change the game,” said Zanetti. Javier is very good, calm, the important thing is that when you do well on the field you certainly will do well for Palermo and the national team. A comparison? He looks a bit like Kaka, but being so young he can still grow a lot.”

Chelsea have had a ‘major offer’ for Javier Pastore rejected, Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has claimed.

The Blues are keen to bolster their Premier League title challenge ahead of next season and are believed to be interested in luring Brazilian winger Neymar to the club. However, they are also after a creative central midfielder and 21-year-old Pastore seemingly fits the bill.

“Chelsea was a club that we had a major offer from,” Zamparini told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. ”But it did not reach the minimum figure that we set for a player of his quality. If someone wants to buy Pastore, the price is €50 million (£44 million). There are five or six clubs also interested, including Man City and big clubs from Spain and Italy but so far there has been nothing from them.”

Pastore has scored 11 goals in 35 games for Palermo this season, and could be sold by the club in order to ‘balance the books’.
