So the ESPY ballot is out and we’ve got some decent soccer representation for the awards show on July 11.
Recently graduated Stanford standout Teresa Noyola is up for “Best Female College Athlete” and joins big-names Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach among the nominees.
Wambach, following her performance in the World Cup, is up for “Best Female Athlete” against the likes of Maria Sharapova, Brittney Griner and Lindsey Vonn.
Morgan faces even stiffer competition in the “Best Breakthrough Athlete” category against Jeremy Lin, Anthony Davis, Robert Griffin III and Rob Gronkowski.
I’m thinking Morgan is a long shot for that one, but at least being category mates with Griffin III will allow the two of them to reach a first-name basis.
Not to be forgotten, Cristiano Ronaldo is up for “Best International Athlete” while the top MLS Player category comes down to Beckham (huh?), Brad Davis, Dwayne De Rosario and Chris Wondolowski.
If Beckham wins I’m boycotting the ESPYs. Oh yeah, I wasn’t invited to begin with.
