Unconscious player gets red card for diving

Written by Jahmal Corner

Diving is a problem in soccer. We all can agree on that. One referee finally did something about it!

From the lower tiers in Belgium soccer, Julien Lecomte took an elbow to the back of the head last week and was knocked unconscious. As he was being taken off on a stretcher, the referee decided he deserved a red card for his theatrics. He was later taken to a hospital where he was diagnosed with a concussion and three displaced vertebrae.

The lesson here, for all you young players out there: if you’re gonna get knocked out on the pitch, don’t do it in the box!

Soccer definitely needs to address safety issues for players.  The players either need to add more protection/safety gear as part of their uniforms, or the referees need to be much more diligent regarding enforcement.
