The opportunity in front of B.J. Snow may be daunting, but the coach is cool as ever.
The former UCLA head coach walked away from a lucrative position at one of the top Division I programs to take over a team that has not quite reached where it needs or wants to be and is in the midst of an ideological change.
In the high standards of U.S. Soccer Federation’s women’s program, anything below a World Cup title is met with scrutiny. In three attempts so far, the U.S. U17 Women’s National Team has yet to reach that pinnacle with a runner-up medal in 2008, a failure to qualify for the World Cup in 2010, and an inability to escape group play at the World Cup in 2012.
Now, it is Snow’s turn at trying to grab the elusive title, and also start to build the style of play that the U.S. women’s program wants for all the national teams.
