KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University of Akron women’s soccer team was handed its first Mid-American Conference defeat on Sunday, losing a 1-0 decision at Western Michigan.

The Zips (5-4-1, 2-1-1 MAC) gave up a 27^th minute score on a WMU (6-6-0, 2-2-0) corner kick. Caitlin Henderson sent in the corner and Brittney Pavlica was able to finish past UA keeper Jeny Wolbert. Wolbert made two saves in the contest.

It was a tough loss today,” coach Chris Pfau said. “We competed hard and I thought we did some nice things. We gave up a soft goal and on the road it its hard to come back from that. We never stopped playing and created some good chances in the second half.  That is something we can build on.”

The loss snaps a five game unbeaten streak for Akron and the Pavlica goal broke a UA shutout streak that had stretched to 523 minutes.

UA continues its conference road travels next weekend when they face Ball State on Friday and Toledo on Sunday.
