Arkansas Keeps Pace In SEC With Shutout Win
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Just two days removed from an upset win over No. 2 Duke, Arkansas extended its winning streak Monday night with a 2-0 shutout victory over UMKC at Razorback Field.
Now 4-0 for just the second time under head coach Colby Hale, the Razorbacks are one of only two undefeated and untied teams in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
The game was a tight match until well into the second half when senior forward Alexandra Fischer scored her first goal of the season in the 62nd minute of play to put Arkansas ahead 1-0. The goal is the 11th of Fischer’s career.
Sophomore defender Jessi Hartzler would seal the game for the Razorbacks in the 71st minute by heading in a corner kick from senior midfielder Claire Kelley.
“That’s a good win. We knew that this would present a unique challenge,” head soccer coach Colby Hale said. “I thought it was a tremendous job of grinding out a win. We talked about maintaining a standard and we did that. We will enjoy this tonight and then get prepared for a good UNI team.”
Arkansas held a 24-5 advantage in shots and 9-5 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Cameron Carter improved to 4-0 for the year while notching her first shutout of the season and freshman midfielder Stefani Doyle added to her team-leading point total with an assist on Fischer’s goal.
The Razorbacks will host Northern Iowa (1-2-1) Thursday night at 6 p.m. in a bid to win its fifth game in a row before heading on the road for back-to-back matches.
