The final two rounds of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft wrapped on Tuesday with 38 players selected in 39 picks (LA Galaxy elected to pass on the fun). From that pool of talented players, we take a look at some of the best, worst, and most exciting picks from the third and fourth rounds of the draft.
Best Third Round Pick
D Peter Schmetz, Sporting Kansas City - The only reason Schmetz lasted this long in the draft is due to injury during his senior season at UC Santa Barbara. The German center back is fully fit now, which makes his path to a roster spot much easier. Sporting KC will need cover at center back this summer with Matt Besler likely missing much of the summer due to the World Cup, so there is an opportunity for Schmetz to shine as well. He is a gigantic player at 6-foot-6, but he is deceptively agile and has a deft touch. He will need to play alongside Ike Opara or another quick center defender to mark some of the speedsters in the league.
