DECORAH, Iowa — When the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team took to the field against Luther Wednesday evening, it marked the first time in 19 years the two teams had squared off.

After 90 minutes against the high-powered Norse, the Cardinals are probably hoping they don't see Luther for another 19 years.

Luther scored three times in the game's first 27 minutes and never looked back in handing Saint Mary's a 4-0 nonconference setback.

Jon Grednalske got the Norse on the board in the game's sixth minute, scoring the first of Luther's two unassisted goals. Saul Rosales made it 2-0 18 minutes into the opening half and J.W. Slauson pushed the Norse's lead to 3-0 nine minutes later. Oket Dakwa-Agyekum then closed out the scoring for the Norse two minutes into the second half.

Joey Petrich (Elk River, Minn.) and Christian Van Dam (Linovia, Mich.) both saw playing time in goal for the Cardinals, with both goalkeepers allowing two goals, while collecting two saves each.

The Cardinals (2-5-0 overall) return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, traveling to Arden Hills, Minn., for a 3 p.m. game against Bethel.
