Bulldogs Lose at Navy to End Maryland Trip
Annapolis, Md. - Navy scored three times in the first half and went on to a 5-0 win over The Citadel in the finale of a two-game, season-opening road trip for the Bulldogs.
The Citadel dropped to 0-2 while the Midshipmen evened their mark at 1-1. The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday when they play their home opener against Jacksonville State at WLI Field with kickoff at 4 p.m.
After allowing goals to Paloma Perez, Morgan Dankanich and Cat Macklin in the opening 45 minutes, The Citadel defense stiffened after intermission, surrendering only one tally and that didn't come until the final two minutes of the game. Navy did benefit from an own goal in the opening stages of the second half.
The Midshipmen held a 29-1 advantage in shots. Naomi Carter started in goal for the Bulldogs and made seven saves in 58 minutes, and Sarah Katchen stopped two shots in her 32 minutes of action. Nicole Levermann had the
"Our team will continue to work to get better," said Citadel head coach Bob Winch. "Our mental approach to each training and game is going to help us a great deal."
The match against Jacksonville State on Friday is the opener of a three-game homestand for the Bulldogs, who also host Canisius and Charleston Southern the next two Sundays.
