Clan win fourth in a row
Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University Clan men's soccer team won their fourth game in a row on Sunday, defeating the Saint Martin's University Saints by a convincing score of 6-0.
Ryan Dhillon (Delta, BC) had two goals and an assist in the Clan win and Alex Rowley (Maple Ridge, BC) had four assists.
“We came out really strong and that's what we wanted,” said Dhillon. “We played a solid game and it was a great team performance. We wanted to show that we're getting better every game and make a statement. I think we did that.”
The Clan opened the scoring in the first half with goals from midfielder Michael Winter (Vancouver, BC) and Matt Besuschko (Port Moody, BC).
Both goals were assisted by Clan freshman Alex Rowley (Maple Ridge, BC) and were scored in the eighth and 14th minute respectively.
SFU ended the first half with another goal thanks to a great pass from Dhillon to Adam Staschuk (Delta, BC) to allow the Clan to take a 3-0 lead.
Dhillon's assist was a sign of things to come as he came out in the second half and scored the next two goals, making it 5-0 for SFU.
Justin Wallace (Kamloops, BC) wrapped things up for the Clan as he scored the last goal of the game, expanding the Clan's lead and eventual margin of victory to six goals.
The Clan dominated from beginning to end with 30 shots against six from Saint Martin's as SFU goalkeeper Hide Ozawa (Victoria, BC) earned his second shut out of the season.
With the win, the Clan's record improves to 9-1 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.
The Clan will be back in action on Saturday against the University of Western Washington Vikings at 3:00 p.m. in Bellingham, WA.
