Elking, Lopez Score First Career Goals in SLU Win
ST. LOUIS – Freshman Lindsay Elking (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) and senior Jessica Lopez (Gilbert, Ariz./Seton Catholic Prep) tallied their first career goals, and junior Katie Walsh (Chesterfield, Mo./Whitfield) notched her fifth shutout of the season as Saint Louis defeated Fordham 2-0 Friday night in an Atlantic 10 Conference showdown at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
Following a scoreless first half, Elking gave the Billikens (5-7-3, 3-2-1 A-10) the only goal they would need at the 47:38 mark. Taking a cross from freshman Abbey Stock (Town & Country, Mo./St. Joseph’s) from the left side, Elking delivered a perfect header that beat Fordham goalkeeper Rachel Suther to Suther’s right. The assist was Stock’s third of the season, tying her for the team lead.
Lopez gave SLU an insurance marker at 58:36. Collecting a loose ball in the middle of the field, she launched a shot that hit the underside of the crossbar, eluded Suther and rolled across the line.
Walsh made seven saves against a Fordham team that registered 22 total shots. The loss dropped the Rams to 8-7-2 overall, 3-3-1 in the A-10.
The Billikens play their final home game of the season Sunday, hosting unbeaten and nationally ranked La Salle in an A-10 battle. First whistle at Hermann Stadium is 1 p.m.
