FDU Falls at Stony Brook, 2-1
The Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team dropped a hard-fought road match at Stony Brook Sunday evening, 2-1, in Stony Brook, NY. With the victory, the Seawolves improve to 2-3-2 on the season, while the Knights fall to 3-2-1 overall.
After a scoreless first half in which the Knights outshot the home team, 9-6, sophomore #Jonathan Gonzalez# broke the scoreless tie in the 67th minute with a shot that deflected off Seawolves’ goalie Stefan Mans to give FDU a 1-0 advantage. The goal is Gonzalez’s second of the season.
However, the lead was short-lived as Stony Brook’s Berian Gobeil tied the game at one in the 70th minute on a penalty kick.
With six minutes left in the match, Leonardo Fernandez found Raphael Abreu for the eventual game-winning goal to give the Seawolves a 2-1 lead which they would never relinquish.
Stony Brook outshot the Knights, 10-5, in the second half to finish the game with a 16-14 advantage.
Sophomore #Jacob Lissek# was tagged with his second loss of the season between the pipes for FDU but made four saves. Mans saved five shots in goal for Stony Brook.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, Sept. 23, when they host Manhattan in their final non-conference match. Kick-off at University Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
