Five predictions for college soccer in 2016
The 2016 college season is still a shimmering mirage in the distance. We just buried signing day three weeks ago, and many of the nation’s top classes aren’t even cemented yet for the coming season. In college soccer, that tends to take some months. In many cases, we won’t have a concrete idea until transfer season settles toward the end of summer.
So it’s a perfect time to make some way-too-early predictions.
On the men’s side, the 2015 season ended with Jordan Morris’s Stanford side capturing its first ever national title with a 4-0 romp over Clemson, setting the stage for Morris’s triumphant ride into MLS in the offseason. On the women’s side, Penn State rode the speeding Raquel Rodriguez train to a 1-0 win over Duke for a first national title of its own.
Morris and Rodriguez both scored in the final. Both are gone. On rides the inexorable cycle of college soccer.
What follows are five predictions for the upcoming season. Be sure to bookmark this space so that when December comes around, you can either gloat or fall prostrate and the one or two that found the mark.
