FLC men’s soccer players Kling, Kordistos named RMAC Players of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College men’s soccer players Fabian Kling and Kostas Kordistos were named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Sarah Meier announced today.
Kling, a 6-foot-3 senior defender from Holblein High School in Augsburg, Germany, has anchored a Skyhawk defense that allowed just one goal through the season’s first four games. He also added a pair of assists last week.
The Preseason RMAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2011, Kling helped goaltender Ryan Wirth post a shutout streak of 457:34 (one that stretched back to the 15:15 mark of the 2010 RMAC semifinals against Regis). Colorado Mines scored the first goal of the season allowed by Fort Lewis on Sunday.
Last season, he led the Skyhawks in goal scoring (eight) and ranked second in total points (16) while taking home team Most Valuable Player honors. In 2010, he was named to the NSCAA/Performance Subaru and Daktronics All-America third teams, the NSCAA/Performance Subaru and Daktronics All-Central Region first teams, the All-RMAC second team and the RMAC All-Tournament Team.
As a sophomore in 2009, he was named to the NSCAA All-Central Region first team, the Daktronics All-Central Region second team, and the All-NCAA Division II Final Four Team while guiding the Skyhawks to their second NCAA Division II championship in five seasons.
Kling earned first team All-RMAC honors as a true freshman in 2008.
Kordistos, a 5-foot-9 freshman forward from Gymnasium Lippstadt in Lippstadt, Germany, scored the first three goals of his collegiate career last week — two in a 3-0 win over Hawai’i Pacific last Monday, the other in a 2-1 win over then-No. 8 Colorado Mines on Sunday. He finished the week with six total points, 10 shots, and six shots on goal.
The Skyhawks (4-0-0), ranked No. 6 in today’s NCAA Division II coaches’ poll, travel to Colorado State-Pueblo (0-3-1) for a 2:30 p.m. tilt against the ThunderWolves Sunday.
