HORNETS DOWNED, 2-0, BY NJIT
NEWARK, N.J. – The Delaware State University soccer team has struggled offensively this year and Friday night was no exception as the Hornets fell, 2-0, by NJIT on Lubetkin Field at J. Malcom Simon Stadium on the NJIT campus.
In the first period, Del State got off seven shots, with two coming on goal from sophomore Darcy Pelz-Butler (Silver Spring, Md.) and junior Candace Wyre (Smyrna, Del.).
The Highlanders were able to get two goals in a span of less than three-and-a-half minutes, with sophomore Camille Billing scoring in the 29th minute. Freshman Kylie Jones recorded what would be the final goal of the night in the 33rd minute, when her bending corner kick curved into the net.
DSU was outshot, 10-2, in the second period and only got off one shot on goal, coming from junior Randall Marshall (Laurel, Md.).
Freshman goalie Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.), currently ranked fourth in the nation in saves, collected three saves on the night.
With the loss, the Hornets dropped to 0-2-1 in Great West Conference play and 1-12-2 overall while NJIT moves to 1-0 in the GWC and 2-9 overall.
DSU continues conference play on Thursday as they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on the South Carolina State Bulldogs.
