Kindle Leads CSUB Past UC Riverside 2-0
RIVERSIDE, Calif.--Kory Kindle (Sr., Ventura, Calif., Ventura HS) scored a pair of goals to lead CSU Bakersfield past No. 19 UC Riverside 2-0 Sunday night.
The Roadrunners struck quickly as Kindle converted a Gyasi Zardes (R-Jr., Hawthorne, Calif., Leutzinger HS) pass just 1:11 into the match. Kindle scored again at 42:53 as he completed a give and go from Zardes. Jesus Sanchez (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Castle Park HS) also earned an assist on the play.
The Highlanders pressed the Roadrunners, taking all five of their second half shots in the final portion of the second half. Eric Shannon (Sr., Valencia, Calif., Valencia HS) made four saves as he recorded his 26th career shutout. CSUB (3-1-4) handed the Highlanders the program's first loss of the season, 7-1.
"It was perhaps our most complete performance of the season," said CSUB head coach Simon Tobin. "Considering we had a tough trip to SMU (on Thursday Sept. 20) and UC Riverside was ranked No. 19, we outplayed them in every department."
CSUB opens MPSF play next Saturday night when the Roadrunners host UNLV at 7 p.m.
