ASU came out fast and ready to play as Ariela Lewis scored in the opening minute on a pretty cross from Aaliyah Lewis.
The Lady Hornets added a second goal in the 28th minute when Larissa White shot from straightaway and found the left corner of the net to make it a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Lady Hornets' back defensive line was relatively steady throughout the night in countering the speed of Devilettes' top scorer Laadi Issaka while sophomore Gianna Guyot (6-6-1) made seven saves in net.
MVSU (3-8-2, 3-3-2 SWAC) did get one back when junior Danielle Allen burst through to score in the opening minute of the second half to cut the lead to 2-1.
However, Alabama State (6-9-1 overall, 5-2-1 SWAC) had an answer as it scored their conference-best 40thteam goal of the season on a ball that Aa. Lewis played off a deflection from Devilettes' keeper Rita Gyasi.
Ar. Lewis and Aa. Lewis have now combined to score 21 goals to be the most potent scoring duo in the SWAC.
ASU stays at home to take on Alcorn State on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kick at the ASU Soccer Complex.
