FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Alex Bangerl bodied in a shot from a Nike Azuma corner kick in the final minute of regulation to give the Columbia men's soccer team a 1-0 win at Sacred Heart.

With the victory, the Lions improve to 11-3-1 in 2016, which is the most Columbia program wins since the 11-5-1 season of 1999.

In addition to Azuma, Francisco Agrest was so credited with an assist on the scoring play, his first of the season, while Columbia's starting center back, Bangerl, now has his third goal of 2016.

Although they were unable to break through until the final minute, Columbia was aggressive throughout, out-shooting Sacred Heart 15-9 on the day. Agrest led the way with six shots, including one on goal, while Bangerl fired off three shots and Rhys Williams had two.

In net, Dylan Castanheira picked up his fifth shutout win of the season, improving to 7-1 in 2016. The sophomore stopped four shots in the contest, and got help from one team save.

The victory gives the Lions three consecutive marks in the win column, and should provide momentum heading into a Saturday showdown at Harvard. The Crimson lead the league with 13 points and a 4-0-1 record, while Dartmouth and Columbia are tied for second with 10 points at 3-0-1.
