Men's Player of the Year Watch: Sept. 17
The men’s Player of the Year race is finally crystalizing after some early jockeying made the field a bit clearer. We still have a long way to go until the race wraps, and while some early favorites are rising to the occasion, a few surprise packages are riding into the picture as well. Glorious confusion abounds.
Here’s a glimpse at the picture as it currently stands in our first Player of the Year update of the season. Keep checking this space as the list morphs over the course of the season.
The Favorites
Jordan Morris, Stanford: Morris didn’t enter the 2015 season at full strength due to an injury he suffered in the summer, which was evident even during an opening weekend in which he scored a goal. Since then, Morris added another for a pair of goals through his first five games. But he doesn’t have an assist - an issue for a player who likes to drop deep to collect possession - and his conversion rate of two goals on 15 shots isn’t great. Understandable start considering his summer, but he’ll have to pick up the pace if he wants to win a trophy most expect him to own.
