Men's Soccer Comes Up Short In 1-0 Contest
POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - A first half penalty kick goal was the difference at Tenney Stadium in the Marist men's soccer team's 1-0 loss to Siena on Oct. 21. The Red Foxes fell to 6-7-1 overall and 4-2-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with the defeat.
In the 27th minute, Siena junior Danilo Markovic, converted from 15 yards out to give the Saints the only goal they would need on the night.
Sophomore Kevin Kappock fired a long shot that was saved in the 43rd minute and senior Connor Preece had a header stopped with two minutes remaining in the contest for the Red Foxes' best offensive chances.
Marist fired a season-high 27 shots, including 10 on goal, while the Saints finished with six shots and four on goal. The Red Foxes also owned a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
Individually, junior Dylan MacVane led all players with six shots in the match. Siena sophomore goalkeeper Gianni Carillo improved to 4-3-1 by making 10 saves.
The Red Foxes will begin a two-game road trip with a 2 p.m. match at Manhattan on Oct. 24.
