WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Siena Men’s Soccer (4-7, 1-2) dropped its second MAAC match in a row Wednesday evening, snapping a four-game unbeaten streak against Monmouth (1-8-1, 1-2). The Hawks picked up their first win of the 2019 season with a 2-1 victory at home, netting a goal in each period and fending off a late Siena comeback attempt.

Despite holding a 15-9 lead in shots, including 7-3 on-goal, the Saints let up goals in the 40^th and 69^th minutes, with Monmouth’s Ben Zakowski and Santo Arena each finding the back of the net.

The Saints avoided being held to what would have been their second straight shutout in the 85^th minute, when Conor McGlynn took a ball in himself for his fourth goal of the season.

Siena drew a season-high 10 corner kick opportunities to Monmouth’s two, but committed 14 fouls while the Hawks did so just nine times.

McGlynn and junior Alejandro Riquelme each led the team with four shots attempted, while sophomore goalkeeper Greg Monroe made a pair of saves in 90 minutes of action.

Siena will look to get back to .500 in conference play on Saturday, Oct. 12, when it heads south to battle Marist at 7:00 p.m. in nearby Poughkeepsie, NY.
