PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Niagara men's soccer team could not hold onto a late second half lead, playing the Pittsburgh Panthers to a 1-1 tie on Friday evening at the Duquesne Invitational.

With seconds left in the game, freshman midfielder Nick Wysong headed home a cornerkick from sophomore Michael Tuohy's to send the game into overtime.  In overtime, Niagara had the better of play, outshooting Pittsburgh 3-2, but neither team could break the 1-1 deadlock.

“It was a disappoint way to finish the game,” head coach Chase Brooks said.  “You work so hard the whole game and you have to see it through until the final whistle.  Our guys turned off for a bit and with four seconds to go, Pittsburgh knocked one in.  It’s time to regroup and get ready for Sunday’s game against Duquesne.”

The Purple Eagles (0-0-1) got on the board in the 40th minute when senior Rene De Zorzi netted his first goal of the season, giving Niagara a 1-0 lead.

Senior Brett Petricek made seven saves to help Niagara come out with the draw.  

The Purple Eagles are back in action on Sunday when they face the Duquesne Dukes at 1:30 p.m. at Rooney Field.
