August 22, 2011
ELMHURST, Ill. - North Dakota State senior Abbey Moenkedick was named The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Bison to a shutout win over Northern Iowa Sunday.
The Champlin, Minn. native helped limit the Panthers to only four shots and one shot on goal in the 1-0 victory. Her performance helped NDSU to its first season-opening shutout win since 2007.
It is the sixth career weekly honor for Moenkedick. She was a four-time defensive player of the week in 2010 and also earned the award once in 2009.
South Dakota's Jenny Teslow was named Offensive Player of the Week after scoring twice in a 3-2 loss to North Dakota.
Moenkedick and the Bison travel to Honolulu, Hawai'i this weekend to play Hawai'i and California.
