MT fights to second-straight 0-0 tie
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee soccer team (0-0-2) battled to another 0-0 double overtime draw Friday night, taking nearby Lipscomb (1-1-1) to the limit at Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
Despite the scoreless match, the Blue Raiders dominated the contest, outshooting the Bisons 24-8. MT had nine shots on goal compared to LU’s two. Middle Tennessee also recorded more corner kicks with nine, while Lipscomb had four.
Lipscomb had an opportunity to win the contest during regulation, when Linnell used some fancy footwork to get an open goal, but missed wide to send the game into extra time.
LU’s Anna Buhigas stayed busy in front of the net, grabbing two saves in the first period and six in the second, while notching one in the second overtime frame for a total of nine. MT keeper Kelsey Brouwer saw action in the second stanza, snagging two saves.
Kate Loye led the Blue Raiders with six shots, including four on goal, while Tori Hawkins recorded four shots with three on goal. The Bisons were paced by Baylee Linnell with five shots, while Molly Bray and Ellen Lundy each had a shot on goal.
The Blue Raiders return to action Sunday, Sept. 1, looking for their first goal of the season, when they host Memphis at 5 p.m.
