No. 15 Mines Silences Skyhawks; Repeat As RMAC Regular Season Champs
GOLDEN – The beneficiary of an own goal in the 68th minute, NSCAA No. 15 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer clinched its second straight RMAC regular season championship Sunday with a 1-0 Senior Day win over Fort Lewis at CSM Soccer Stadium.

The repeat champions closed 11-1-2 in the conference schedule, edging No. 8 Metro State (13-1-4, 10-0-4 RMAC) by one point, 35-34, for the second title in the program's 10-year history.  

The defensive slugfest yielded only four combined shots on goal with freshman Emily Garnier and sophomore Cari Smith each sending one to net. Mines (14-1-3) finished the afternoon 13-5 on shots.

Junior Jayln Yates (14-1-3) needed only one save in the 90:00 minutes to preserve her 13th shutout – most in a single-season in program lore – and equal the RMAC career record of 36 shared by Metro State's Rachel Zollner (2005-07) and Mandy Allen (2002-05).

Tied for 12th on the Division II career chart, Yates owns the top-three single-season shutout totals in the Mines record book.

Prior to the opening whistle, the Orediggers recognized seniors Kendra Bulawa, Nicho Cusack, Kenzie King and Maddie Woodard. The four boast the most wins over a four-year period of any senior class in team annals at 68-8-10 overall and 45-6-5 in the RMAC through Sunday.

The RMAC Tournament semifinals and final will be decided Nov. 7 and 9 in Golden. Times have yet to be determined.
