Red Foxes Fall Short Against Columbia
POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Playing its third consecutive match at home, the Marist men's soccer team lost to Columbia, 2-0, in a non-conference clash on Tuesday evening.
All the scoring occurred in the first 30 minutes of the contest, as Columbia sophomore Amit Shumowitz put his team in front in the 25th minute on a long kick that sailed into the top of the net. Junior Rhys Williams added a header from close in more than four minutes later.
Sophomore Mark Rajovic kept Marist in the game by making 10 saves in goal, while freshman Cameron Harr led the Red Foxes' offense with three shots, including two on goal.
"I saw some good things tonight and we took a step in the right direction," head coach Matt Viggiano said. "But there are definitely a lot of lessons we need to learn."
The Lions outshot Marist 16-10 and each side had just one corner kick.
The Red Foxes will host Binghamton at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 to conclude their longest home stand of the season. There will be a Marist Men's Soccer Alumni game at 3 p.m. and tailgate prior to the start of Saturday night's match in Tenney Stadium.
