RU Finishes RMAC Regular Season with 2-1 Victory over CMU
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.: Regis hit the road yesterday intent on playing to their fullest potential this afternoon against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents Colorado Mesa University.
The Rangers defeated the home team 2-1 in 90:00 minutes, finishing the RMAC ranked as the #1 seed for the conference tournament, 12-2-1 overall and 11-2-1 in the RMAC.
RU scored first in the 15th minute of play after seniors Ben Fredrickson and Mark Kellyconnected on a corner kick. Fredrickson sent the corner in to Kelly who responded with a header into the right side of the goal for his 13th goal of 2013.
Mesa answered in the 32nd with a goal of their own evening the score to 1-1, but Regis would not let that stand for long and would place the eventual game-winner in just six minutes later.
Junior Davey Hewitt snagged his first goal of the season through the posts off a free kick from afar.
Regis finished the match after putting seven of their eight shots on goal. FreshmanConnor Adkisson earned three saves in between the posts, while the Ranger defense picked up a team save as well.
Next weekend, RU will host the RMAC Tournament in Denver, Colo. beginning Friday, Nov. 8 at 2:00 p.m. The Rangers will play the winner of #4 Metro State and #5 Fort Lewis after their match that takes place Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at Metro.
