LOUDONVILLE, NY – In a contest that was back-and-forth from start to finish, a second half goal would prove to be the difference between Siena Men’s Soccer (5-9, 2-4) and MAAC foe Rider (6-5-2, 3-2-2) at Hickey Field Wednesday afternoon. The Broncs broke through on the scoreboard in the 78^th minute to take a 1-0 victory over the Saints in Loudonville.

Siena suffered its fourth shutout of the season and its second in conference play, with Rider holding a 7-5 advantage in shots and earning triple the amount of corner kicks taken (6-2). The match featured just four total saves and five combined shots in the first half, with four total cards being issued as the conference rivals swapped possessions.

Rider would prevail with the game-winner in the 78^th minute, as leading goal scorer Pablo DeCastro slid a ball on the ground past the keeper from the right side of the box. DeCastro capitalized on the play following tick-tack-toe passes set up by Clement Bourret and Sam Carter.

Four different Saints registered a shot in the loss, with junior Alejandro Riquelme steadying the squad with two. Senior Jesse Rodrigues came off the bench and nearly scored with an attempt that went wide right, while sophomore Samuel Schwarz and freshman Gylfi Gestsson also registered an attempt. Sophomore Greg Monroe dropped to 4-9 on the season in-goal, making three saves in the process.

Following the setback, Siena will look to get back on a winning track this weekend, when it travels south to face Fairfield on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7:00 p.m.
