Seahawks Drop 3-0 Decision To Sacred Heart
Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 defeat to visiting Sacred Heart University on Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field.
With the loss, Wagner drops to 3-10-3 on the year and 0-5-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while the Pioneers improve to 7-10 on the season and 4-3 in the NEC.
The Seahawks had six shots in the first period, as sophomore Autumn Clark (Fort Lauderdale, FL / Pine Crest Prep) almost converted on two dangerous free kicks to get Wagner on the board. Classmate Maria Nunez (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) also had a promising opportunity, but her header from close range after a long cross was saved.
The Pioneers opened up the scoring on a header by Alex Mesropyan 35 minutes into the contest to take a 1-0 halftime lead.
In the second period, Wagner had its most promising chance on a shot by freshman Le'La Allen (Piscataway, NJ / Piscataway), but her attempt sailed just wide.
The Pioneers added to their lead on goals by Kim McNally and Melanie DaSilva in the second half to build a 3-0 lead.
Clark led the Seahawks with three attempts on the day, while freshman Mattea Reale (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada / Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School) and Allen had two shots apiece. In goal, junior Katie Viscardi (Hazlet, NJ / Mater Dei Prep) made 6 saves on the afternoon.
Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Bryant on Friday, October 27, for a 3:00 pm game.
