Stony Brook Sinks Saints Late
Stony Brook scored twice in a four-minute span late in the second half to defeat Siena Women’s Soccer 3-1 Sunday afternoon on Long Island. Senior captain Brittany Pfaff continued her torrid start for the Saints, scoring her fifth goal in five matches.
Leah Yurko broke a 1-1 tie in the 73rd minute for Stony Brook (4-1-1) and Lindsay Hutchinson put it away in the 77th minute.
The Seawolves registered 17 shots in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into the lockerroom on a Danielle Fuller tally in the 16th minute. For the match, Stony Brook out-shot the Saints (3-2) 28-14 and held an 8-4 edge in corners.
Pfaff drew the Saints even in the 56th minute. Michelle Yanniello played the ball back to Kayla Mancusi who led Pfaff past her defender to knot the score. The goal gives Pfaff 13 points in just five matches to begin the season.
Taylor Booth was active throughout for the Saints making 10 saves. Her counterpart Ashley Castanio made seven stops for Stony Brook.
The Saints look to improve to 4-0 at home when they return to action Friday at 4 p.m. vs. Rhode Island.
