Temples Loses at UConn 3-1
STORRS, Conn. – Temple men’s soccer fell on the road to UConn 3-1 on Wednesday night at Monroe Stadium. The Owls drop to 2-11-2, 1-4-1 while the Huskies improve to 6-6-2, 4-1-1.
Down a goal to start the second half, the Owls tied the game in the 51st minute. Stefan Mueller scored his first collegiate goal just outside the box on a pass from Willie Chalfant. UConn took the lead for good six minutes later when Cyle Larin scored his second goal of the game. Ethan Vanacoredecker added the third goal in the 65th minute.
Larin scored his first goal on a penalty kick in the 17th minute.
Goalkeeper Dan Scheck made five saves in the game. The Owls tied the Huskies 4-4 in shots in the first half, but were outshot 13-10 in the second half as play opened up more.
Olli Tynkkynen led Temple with four shots, and Mueller’s two shots were both on goal.
Temple will face Tulsa on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. on Senior Day for the final home game at Ambler Sports Complex. The matchup between the schools is the first ever one with Tulsa joining the American Athletic Conference this year.
