Complete Patriot League Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following two shutouts last week, three members of the Lehigh women's soccer team have garnered Patriot League weekly awards, as announced on Tuesday. Senior Tori Pantaleo was named Offensive Player of the Week, junior Adrian Vitello earned Midfielder of the Week and freshman Sam Miller garnered her second straight Rookie of the Week award.
Pantaleo scored three of Lehigh's six goals last week in a pair of 3-0 victories. She began the week with two goals (to tie a career high) against Marist Wednesday, scoring key insurance goals in the 72nd and 81st minutes. Pantaleo went on to score in the 85th minute at Mount St. Mary's Saturday. She now leads the Mountain Hawks with four goals and eight points on the season through four games.
A strong contributor on both ends of the field last week, Vitello earned her second weekly award - also garnering Defensive Player of the Week last season. She set the tone against Marist Wednesday, scoring a goal in the sixth minute to help Lehigh get off to a fast start, while also assisting on Lehigh's third goal (in the 81st minute). As a defensive midfielder, Vitello was part of a defense that held Marist to just 10 shots and only four on goal. On Saturday at Mount St. Mary's, the Mountain Hawks' defense allowed just three shots, only one of which was on goal.
Meanwhile, Miller continued her strong play to begin her career, posting two more shutouts last week. She has not allowed a goal in 380 minutes of collegiate action and owns four shutouts. Miller made four saves against Marist before posting a second-half stop at Mount St. Mary's. Lehigh has posted four straight shutouts to begin its season for the first time since 2005, in the process, holding its opponents scoreless for the first 380 minutes. Dating back to last season, the Mountain Hawks' shutout streak has reached 453:57.
Standing 3-0-1 overall, the Mountain Hawks return to action this weekend when they host Binghamton on Friday at 7 p.m. before heading to Villanova for a 1 p.m. opening kickoff.
