CARSON, California — Tommy Thompson landed at LAX early on Tuesday morning. Just over 36 hours later, he made his international debut for the U.S. U20 Men’s National Team against Bermuda.
Neither jetlag nor an outclassed Bermuda side could slow Thompson down. The San Jose Earthquakes Homegrown player scored on his debut with a tremendous individual effort and a rocket of a shot.
“I think there’s a bunch of good things [to take from today],” U.S. U20 MNT head coach Tab Ramos said after the game. “On the bright side, today was the first time that Tommy Thompson played for us. I thought he did a pretty good job. He dominated his side. He worked hard. He got a lot of crosses in. That was a good find for us. We tried to bring him a couple of other times but he was injured. The first time here and we were happy with that we could add a player to the scheme of things.”
