Trine's Davis Makes Season-High 15 Saves
ANGOLA, Ind. - The Trine University women’s soccer team battled the elements along with visiting Adrian College, but came up short against the Bulldogs 2-0. The Thunder drop to 1-5-2 on the season and 0-3-1 in the MIAA.
The weather was less than perfect as a steady rainfall and an hour delay for lightning halted the game 15 minutes into the second half just after Adrian took the 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute on a goal by Lauren Cozzi.
The Bulldogs would add an insurance goal in the 65th minute after the two teams returned from the weather delay as Ellery Karsten put her shot over the left shoulder of Trine goalie freshman Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet).
Davis finished the afternoon with a season-high 15 saves in net. It was the most by a Trine goalie since Kate Wegert recorded 16 saves on September 25, 2010 at Indiana Tech.
Sophomore Melissa Smiles (Davisburg, Mich./Holly) along with freshmen Skyler Reed (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll) and Jamie McCarrell (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) each recorded a shot attempt, with Smiles shot being the only one to come on net. For the match, Trine was out-shot 26-3.
The Thunder will travel to Kalamazoo on September 25 for a conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
