Tulsa Earns 1-0 Win Over Utah Valley
Tana Dake scored a goal late in the game to give the Tulsa women’s soccer team a 1-0 win over Utah Valley on Friday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 1-3-1 on the season, while UVU fell to 1-4 overall.
Dake scored the goal in the 88th minute as she picked up a cross from Rachel Thun-Blankenship at the top of the box and shot from 10 yards out.
“Rachel did a great job of drawing some defenders to her, skated through them and played the ball to Tana at the top of the box, who had a great first touch and a great finish,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said.
The Wolverines had a 27-12 lead in shots, including a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal, and a 9-1 lead in corner kicks.
Thun-Blankenship had a team-best four shots, while Dake, Valiree Morris and Ashlyn Heckman added two attempts each. Courtney McKeon logged all 90 minutes in goal, picked up 12 saves and earned the clean sheet.
“I was very, very proud of our backs and Courtney today,” Cussen said. “It was our first shutout of the season. We had a ‘bend, don’t break’ attitude and they did that. They gave up 27 shots and didn’t concede a goal, which says a lot.”
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, September 3 against James Madison. Game time is set for 11:00 am at the Hurricane Stadium.
