Tulsa Falls to Cincinnati, 2-1
The Tulsa women’s soccer team fell, 2-1, to Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU dropped to 5-5-1 on the season and 1-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while UC moved to 6-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
“It was a fight for 90 minutes,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “We did a good job in the first half of keeping everything in front of us. We were fortunate to turn them over in their end, which led to our goal, and it was good composure on Anna’s end to put the ball on frame and give it a chance to go in. We challenged them at halftime because we were getting around the box, but we weren’t getting anything out of it. The second half was much better because we outshot them 10-9 and got a couple of corner kicks.”
Anna Williams chipped the ball over Cincinnati goalkeeper Claudia Eustaquio for her sixth goal on the year at the 28:09 mark and the Golden Hurricane took that lead into the break.
Jill Vetere evened the score in the 63rd minute as she shot from 12 yards out on the left side, and then Dee Picou gave the Bearcats the go-ahead goal in the 68th minute also from the left side.
Cincinnati had a 14-13 edge in shots and a 5-2 lead in corner kicks, while both teams had four shots on goal.
Alyssa Kaiser and Williams both had a team-high three shots, while Valiree Morris and Mia Darden each added two attempts. Mica MacKay played all 90 minutes in goal and picked up two saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, October 4 at SMU. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at Westcott Field in Dallas, Texas.
