The Tulsa women’s soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime to Oklahoma on Sunday evening at the OU Soccer Complex in Norman, Okla.  The Golden Hurricane dropped to 0-3-1 on the season, while the Sooners moved to 1-2-1 overall.

 

“OU plays a unique system and formation so we tweaked our formation, which took us some time in the first half to adjust,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said.  “As the game wore on we got more comfortable, even in the middle of the first half, and we created opportunities.  We were confident in the way we were playing in the second half.  I was really proud of the team tonight and the way they battled.  We were frustrated with the game on Friday because we didn’t leave it all out on the field, but tonight we are disappointed because we put ourselves in a good spot to win the game, stuck to the game plan and were just unfortunate to give up the goal in overtime.  I was proud of our effort and the way we competed tonight.”

 

Marissa McMahand put the Sooners on the board as she split a pair of defenders and shot from 12 yards out into the lower left corner at the 40:50 mark and OU took a 1-0 lead into the break.

 

In the 74^th minute, Tana Dake hit a through ball to Valiree Morris in the box.  Morris then crossed the ball to McKenzi McAdams as she scored from six yards out into the lower right side for the equalizer.

 

The game remained tied through regulation, but Kaylee Dao punched in the Golden Goal at the 95:08 mark off a free ball that was played into the box on a corner kick.

 

The Sooners had a 26-9 lead in shots, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal, and an 8-0 lead in corner kicks.

 

Tana Dake had a team-best four shots, while McAdams added two attempts and three others had one shot for TU.  Rebecca Defer logged all 95:08 in goal and picked up seven saves.

 

Tulsa will return to action on Friday, September 1 against Utah Valley.  Game time is set for 12:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
