Mid-October is just about here and the women’s college season Player of the Year race continues to heat up.
While team success is certainly at the forefront for each of the individuals listed below, below is a look at eight players building a case for end of season honors.
D Kadeisha Buchanan, West Virginia
The Canadian center back remains the clear favorite in the Player of the Year race, provided West Virginia goes deep enough in the tournament. The World Cup buzz will help, but it’s about what Buchanan and the Mountaineers have done so far this season. They’ve conceded just three goals (two of them in one game), as Buchanan and the rest of the defense have posted 10 shutouts in 12 games. It would be a shock to see West Virginia slip up during its current Big 12 slate, as they make eyes on a deep postseason run.
