HS: State, region rankings, March 20

Out-of-state visitors to Gatlinburg, Tenn., won the top two flights at the Smoky Mountain Cup over the weekend, leading to a bit of shuffle in the boys spring rankings.

Coppell (Texas) won the Clingman's Dome Division, or the top flight, but the Cowboys were already locked into position among the national elite winter programs heading into the week. J.L. Mann (S.C.) won the second flight, helping salvage its ranking in the face of a midweek loss to rival Nation Ford (S.C.).

There was only slight movement in the winter state and region rankings for boys and girls as only Texas remains in action, and most of those teams were idle last week due to spring break.

Camas (Wash.) and Omaha South (Neb.) were the big movers this week, both taking over their respective state boys No. 1 rankings. Camas handled Kamiakin right after that team knocked off state No. 2 Pasco. Omaha South, interestingly a division winner at the Smoky Mountain Cup last year, stayed home to win the Packer Invitational this season.

On the girls side, SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 Collinsville (Ill.) lost its opener, allowing Naperville North (Ill.) to move into the top spot in the state rankings. Colorado and North Carolina's state rankings were toppled last week, leading to new No. 1s in both states.
