Region, State HS Rankings: October 20
Despite a week full of rivalry matches, postseason contests and a marquee girls soccer encounter, the net result was minimal change in this week's TopDrawerSoccer state and regional rankings.
In fact, the entire Ohio girls Top 15 stayed in the exact same order after all 15 teams won their matches last week. The Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-East, Northeast and West regions for boys soccer also were virtually unchanged.
Of course, there were a few surprises that altered state and regional rankings, which also will affect the SIMA FAB 50 on Tuesday. Most notably, Delbarton School (Morristown, N.J.) lost last week to relinquish its spot as the No. 1 New Jersey and East Region boys soccer team. Also, Avon (Avon, Ind.) ducked out of the Indiana boys playoffs earlier than expected, ending that team's lofty rankings run.
On the girls side, Brebeuf Jesuit (Indianapolis, Ind.) saw its perfect season and a bid for a SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 ranking end with a 1-0 playoff loss to fellow FAB 50 Top 25-ranked Carmel (Carmel, Ind.).
In what was expceted to be a big-time clash in the preseason, McDonogh School (Owings Mills, Md.) traveled to Pennington School (Pennington, N.J.) on Saturday, and McDonogh strolled to a 5-0 win behind a four-goal performance by Kia Rankin. While the performance keeps McDonogh solidly in the FAB 50 national title chase, Pennington had long been removed from FAB 50 based on an earlier loss. Both teams were without their top performers, as Bridgette Andrzejewski and Alana Cook were training with the U.S. Women's Nartional Team Under-20s this week.
