The MLS Next Flex competition kicks off on Friday in Boyds, Maryland, serving as a qualifying event for the MLS Next Cup playoffs.

The oldest age groups are making the trip, dominated more by independent club sides. Several MLS teams opt to push players into an MLS Next Pro or USL Championship team rather than field a U19 team.
