National qualifiers, state cup champs rise at U13
FC Dallas jumps one spot to #3 this month after taking the Texas Pre-Academy League regular season title and qualifying for the NPL Champions Cup later in the summer. FC Dallas finished the regular season with decisive wins over Andromeda and Houston Dynamo’s pre-academy squads.
Also qualifying for the NPL Champions Cup is FC Golden State Academy, who climbs from #7 to #6. FC Golden State was knocked out of a chance for a US Youth Soccer national title by #4 Los Angeles Futbol Club at the CalSouth National Cup back in February, but recently won the Pacific Developmental NPL title and will head to Aurora, Colorado next month to compete for the NPL crown.
Fewster FC climbs from #25 to #23, and is looking forward to the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships in Rhode Island starting June 28.
New York Red Bulls take over #1 at U14
#1 New York Red Bulls, the 2012 Northeast Pre-Academy regular season champions, are looking for redemption in 2013. After narrowly missing out on a trip to the NPL Champions Cup last summer, the Red Bulls haven’t been on a winning streak since October, have defeated their opponents by a 25-1 goal differential in the first week of June alone, including a 10-0 rout in the first round of the NEPAL playoffs, and look to be well on their way to Aurora in July.
Sporting Kansas City started the Midwest Developmental League regular season 0-2-2 in the month of September, and seemed to be staring at a dismal year ahead. However, after losing to Lexington, Kentucky-based River City Rovers in the middle of October, SKC turned things arounn and climbed to the top of the Gateway division of the MDL, and to #25 in our standings.
New Mexico Rush headed to NPL Champions Cup at U15
Albuquerque-based New Mexico Rush has been hovering around the TeamRank Top 25 all spring, and after capturing the Mountain Developmental League title on June 9, breaks into our rankings at #20. In addition to qualifying for the NPL Champions Cup, NM Rush took the New Mexico US Youth Soccer state cup crown and has qualified to compete in the Far West Regionals in Hawaii.
Next Thursday: U13, U14, and U15 Girls
TeamRank is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.
The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.
Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.
A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
