February 6, 2010
Continuing our look at top recruiting classes from around the country…
(Remember, schools often do not announce their full recruiting class until well past National Signing Day)
Emily Hurd will join Penn State next season.Penn State brought in a bumper crop of recruits, signing a quintet of Top 100 players led by Stars of Massachusetts goal-scoring phenom Hayley Brock. U20 Women’s National Team player Maya Hayes and Mclean SC’s Briana Hovington will join with Brock to create an exciting attacking trio. Crossfire Premier winger Emily Hurd and Beadling SC’s battling midfielder Taylor Schram round out the excellent class.
All the players were standouts at least at the ODP regional level, if not a factor on the youth national team selection front.
Big Ten rivals Minnesota picked up three good ones in their relatively small class. Lauren Bauer of Woodbury Inferno, Alex Koller of Minnesota Thunder and Mackenzie Misel of West Des Moines Xtreme will all be competing with the Golden Gophers beginning this fall.
Villanova got Connecticut FC goalkeeper Jami Kranich and FC DELCO midfielder Stephanie Myers.
Big East rivals West Virginia brought in Vardar’s Amanda Anton, Slammers’ Emily Dillon, Quebec’s Marialye Laramee-Trottier, Hershey Attack’s Katie Lenz, Blue Valley Stars’ Frances Silva and New Hope, PA’s Kristen Worth.
Katie Buczek is headed to UC.Another Big East program with a big class is Cincinnati. Michelle Salmon signed Cincinnati United Premier forward Katie Buczek, Slammers midfielder Natalie Domanic, Albertson Fury forward Katie Greer, Mockingbird SC forward Alex Hoar, Long Beach, California’s Jazmine Rhodes, Internationals’ midfielder Kate Schmidt, Georgia ODP standout Alexis Scott and Classics Hammer defender Sanam Zahedi.
Moving south, College of Charleston will bring in skilled Texas defender Ashley Albores, Sereno SC backliner Swat Dash, Charlotte forward McCallie Jones and Philadelphia-area forward Sarah Cardamone, plus North Carolina’s Victoria Fichman and a transfer from Miami, Indiana native Emilie Huser, a former Top 100 player.
