U.S. National players reveal college commits
Isaiah Trejo was obviously watching the Men’s College Cup pretty closely.
Following their loss in the national championship game this past weekend, Louisville picked up a separate victory Wednesday when blue chip prospect Trejo committed to the Cardinals for the 2011 season.
A gifted center back – who is also quite capable on the outside – from Cal Odyssey, Trejo decided between a host of options before ultimately choosing to take his talents to Kentucky.
“I just felt like Louisville was the best program for my future,” said Trejo, who also considered George Mason and Butler along the way. “I’m looking forward to playing with Paolo (Delpiccolo) next year.”
The presence of Louisville midfielder Delpiccolo on the team may have indeed given the Cardinals a bit of an edge after Trejo spent the summer teaming with him in Europe on the Discover Europe squad.
Trejo is far from the only 2011 grad prospect to recently cast his lot with a college program. The following standouts have also finalized their collegiate decision:
Sean Okoli (Washington Premier FC) heading to Wake Forest: Okoli is another dynamic attacker with national team experience. He’s No. 49 on our Top 100 list and is exuberant about joining the Demon Deacons. Said Okoli about his choice: “I can’t really see myself playing anywhere else. When I was young, I never thought they would be interested in me. They are, and always will be a top program and top school.”
TJ Van Slooten (Derby County Wolves) is heading to Michigan.
Owen Steinwall (Sereno SC) is heading to Xavier.
Alec Cochran (St. Louis Scott Gallagher) is heading to Wisconsin.
Dustin Berg (Real Colorado) is heading to New Mexico.
Andres Penfold (FC Westchester) is heading to Monmouth.
Matthias Sheeleigh (PDA) is heading to Harvard.
