BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA  - It was wrong to drop Butler from 5 all the way to 17 in our Tournament 48 National Ranking after their draw with IUPUI last week

Butler made this quite clear with an emphatic 4-1 win Wednesday night at Indiana.

butler mens college soccer player jacob capitoJacob Capito scored the wining goal.
Disaster struck the Hoosiers in the 15th minute when a throw from goalkeeper Luis Soffner went astray and Butler freshman Austin Oldham pounced on the error and drove a shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Indiana had a couple of great chances to equalize later in the half, with Caleb Konstanski’s open header in the 6-yard box the best, but Butler remained on top despite the IU pressure.

Then a shocking 41 second sequence basically ended the contest just before halftime. The Bulldogs extended their lead with 2:15 remaining on a long distance shot by Jacob Capito that found the back of the net. Less than a minute later Tyler Pollock finished a knockdown from Ade Oluyedun into the back of the net and Butler was suddenly up 3-0 at halftime.

IU coach Todd Yeagley inserted Nate Mitchell in at goalkeeper for the start of the 2nd half. The Hoosiers pulled a goal back in the 54th minute with Will Bruin finishing a serve by Joe Tolen to make it 3-1. IU nearly made it 3-2 midway through the half on a long free kick from Tommy Meyer, but Jacob Bushue’s volley was stopped by Butler goalkeeper Fabian Knopfler.

Butler’s Kelly Findley was understandably upbeat about the result, as seen in this video.

Butler’s Ben Sippola also admitted to being enthusiastic about his team’s performance and prospects.
