Green Player of The Week, ‘Noles still No. 1

A pair of one-goal victories allowed Florida State to remain in the #1 spot of our Tournament 64 National College Soccer Ranking, updated today. The undefeated Seminoles edged Cal State Fullerton 2-1 and Arkansas 1-0, with Atlantic Coast Conference play beginning next weekend.

The ranking is an effort to project the postseason NCAA Tournament field of 64 each week, including the automatic qualifiers from every DI conference. The ranking update is posted each Monday after reviewing all results from the previous week.

There biggest upward mover in the top end of the ranking is Texas A&M, up to #4 from last week’s #8. Other sharp risers include Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Connecticut, San Diego State, Washington and BYU. New arrivals this week include Ohio State as an at-large and Dayton and Princeton for the Atlantic 10 and Ivy League spots, respectively

Meanwhile, North Carolina’s Summer Green is our Women’s College Soccer Player of the Week after she scored 4 goals to help the Tar Heels to a pair of wins over the weekend. The honor, along with the 11-player Team of the Week, is awarded each week after a review of match reports through DI women’s college soccer.

The entire Team of the Week is as follows:

GK: Dayle Colpitts, Virginia Tech Posted a pair of shutouts and recorded 6 saves in a pair of wins for the Hokies.

D: Amber Brooks, North CarolinaWent 180 minutes in the back line and scored twice as UNC took a pair of non-conference wins.

D: Alina Garciamendez, Stanford – Always a force in the back line, Garciamendez added a pair of goals including the gamewinner vs. Boston University as the Cardinal win twice.

D: Rachel Lenz, Texas A&MWent 180 minutes in the back as the Aggies recorded a pair of shutout wins.

M: Jessica Ringwood, BYU – The silky smooth attacking midfielder scored a pair of goals in the Cougars’ 3-1 win over Penn State.

F: Jenna Richardson, Oregon State – Scored twice to help Oregon State to a pair of wins.

F: Chelsea Leiva, Florida International – Scored a hat trick as FIU beat Idaho 6-0

F: Shayla Bergeron, Albany – Scored 3 goals and added 2 assists as the Great Danes won 2 games

F: Summer Green, North Carolina – The freshman scored 4 times as the Tar Heels took wins over Marquette and San Diego.

F: Gilda Doria, Duke – Scored 3 goals as the Blue Devils won twice.

F: Laura Weinberg, Duke – Also scored 3 goals in those Blue Devil victories.
