HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 29, 2010 -- Redshirt sophomore Kelly Germain (McLean, Va./Langley) scored both James Madison goals as the Dukes beat Virginia Commonwealth 2-1 in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer Friday evening at the JMU Soccer Complex.

JMU won its sixth straight match and ended regular-season play with a 13-6-0 overall record and a 9-2-0 CAA record. The Dukes are the number two seed for the CAA Tournament, which opens with semifinal-round play on Nov. 5. The tournament will be hosted by top-seeded Hofstra.

VCU finished its season with a 6-9-4 overall record and a 2-6-2 league mark.

Senior Teresa Rynier (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) was credited with assists on both JMU scores and increased her school career-record total to 50 assists and her season total to a CAA-leading 10 assists.

"It's senior night and we wanted to really come out and put an effort out on the field. I thought we were all over them in the first 15 to 20 minutes (and) that resulted in a great goal by Kelly Germain," JMU Head Coach Dave Lombardo said. "We got a nice second goal to really put the game away. We made it a little interesting at the end there with the scrum in front of the box for VCU's goal, but all-in-all it was a good effort and a good result."

JMU took an early lead as Germain netted her first goal just 11:33 into the match. Rynier dribbled the ball down the right side of the field and fed a pass into the box to Germain, who knocked the ball into the left side of the goal from nine yards out.

The Dukes pushed their lead to 2-0 in the 58th minute on a play that began with a Rynier corner kick. She played the ball to senior Corinna Strickland (Springfield, Va./West Springfield), who was on the right side of the field. Strickland sent a shot across the box toward the far corner of the goal, and Germain rushed in to poke the ball into the goal.

After being out-shot 11-1 in the opening half, VCU made things interesting in the second half, when they had a 12-11 shot advantage. Before the Dukes scored their second goal, shots by freshman Taryn Cressy Boise, Idaho/Capital) in the 53rd minute and by freshman Jordyn Rolling (Northridge, Utah/Northridge) in the 56th minute were just wide of the net.

VCU finally got on the scoreboard with 4:30 left to play, when junior Meaghan Dullea (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) scored from close range in a crowd of players in the box. Cressy was credited with an assist on the goal.

Just 1:17 after the Rams' goal, a shot in the box by VCU sophomore Carly Edgcomb (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) was stopped by JMU redshirt senior goalkeeper Diane Wszalek (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) to preserve the Dukes' win.

For the game JMU out-shot VCU 22-13. Wszalek finished with two saves, while VCU freshman goalkeeper Megan Lynch (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary) made five saves.
