August 23, 2009
HARRISONBURG, Va., -- Richmond freshman Natalie LeClair (South Hero, Vt./Essex Junction) scored her first two collegiate goals, one in each half, to lead the Spiders to a 3-0 victory over 25th-ranked James Madison in women's soccer action Saturday evening at the JMU Soccer Complex.

It was the season-opening game for both teams.

Leclair's first goal came in the 27th minute when a JMU defender deflected a corner kick from sophomore Emily Dale (Middleburg, Va./Highland) out of the box. LeClair controlled the ball and fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal to give Richmond a 1-0 lead.

Just 62 seconds into the second half freshman LeighAnne Baxter (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) fired a laser from 25 yards out and found the upper-left corner of the goal to put Richmond up 2-0.

In the 77th minute, LeClair added her second tally of the match with an 18-yard shot off a through ball from senior Kelsey Rdzanek (Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake) to finish the scoring at 3-0.

The Dukes were often on the offensive, outshooting the Spiders 17-9, including three shots in three minutes early in the first half, but rarely got off a clean shot and only forced five saves out of sophomore goalkeeper Andrea Young (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull).

In the 17th minute JMU s
enior Corky Julien (Williamstown, Ontario/Char-Lan District) got free on a breakaway and rolled a shot past a sprawling Young, but Richmond sophomore Sarah Scheurich (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) cleared the attempt away just before it crossed the goal line.

Julien and junior
Teresa Rynier (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) led the Dukes' offense with five and four shots, re! ! spectively, and redshirt junior goalkeeper Diane Wszalek (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) recorded two saves for the Dukes.
